The theme of today was big. For instance, it didn't take long for us to realise we had a huge tournament on our hands here at The Hippodrome Casino in London's West End. Fairly swiftly the PokerStars Festival London High Roller became the largest ever PokerStars High Roller to be held at this venue.
By the time late registration closed, 166 players (plus 12 re-entries) had participated and those who prospered had to wait awhile to find out what was up top for the eventual winner. When the announcement came it was - you guessed it - big. Along with a novelty cheque, the winner will collect £67,290, the largest pay out for a High Roller event at The Hippodrome. It's not only the payout that's gone up in size, so has the trophy. No side-event spadie here.
Of course, the winner won't be the only player leaving with cash, the £345,320 prize pool will be divvied up between the top 34 finishers, with a min-cash worth £3,110. The full payout structure can be found here.
At time of writing, just 78 players remain in contention for a cash and they'll play on till roughly 1.50am tonight and then return for Day 2 at 2pm, when they'll play down to a winner.
While this one winds down tomorrow the £990 Main Event, which has a £400,000 guarantee, will just be getting started. That also starts at 2pm. We'll be back then to continue coverage but you can follow what remains of Day 1 of this one with our friends at PokerNews.
